Technical Problems

Roam we need a Technical Section:

Basically since ive reformatted ive been unable to load the planetside launcher. every single attempt has been met with a catastrophic lockup forcing a hard manual reset. updating msn is also doing this... not only that but time to time im getting random lockups which are beyond me. i have the latest drivers for everything!

ive tested the RAM by removing one and testing the other and vise versa... ive done the same with my HDD's.. checked there is enough power and yada yada yada. 720 Watt Dual rail 12v is sure to be enough. now.. i stumbled upon my first load of the launcher 2 days ago when i disabled one of my cores.. since i use dual core. for some strange reason it worked.. but never again... not until i discovered my cores were at these temperatures:

Core 1: 42
Core 2: 42
Core : 52

Those are my idle temperatures. i have no idea what the last figure is referring to. my hdd's are averaging at 40 whatever i do. however this is what happened when i was updating planetside just before i froze....

Core : 60

Im not sure why it locked up there..

But anyway here are my temps when playing universe at war:

Core 1: 75
Core 2: 75
Core : 53

Now i KNOW those temperatures are too hot but they fly down to 50 when i minimise the game. when graphics come to play the temp just shoots. im i being paranoid or do i have a major issue here? 1 more thing. these random lockups have begun playing havoc when this pc was almost new. its custom built as in me and my dad built it.

My processor is an Intel E6600 and im wondering how sensitive the core is to heat. such info has been hard to find for some strange reason.

But i dont understand why it would frequently crash when loading the launcher and trying to update msn. any ideas?

*EDIT*

Sorry. the one labelled Core is my GPU. but the cores still seem to get a bit too hot.

Back from life!

Hi Dude!
Sorry to have taken so long to reply but I have had very little free time (reason I quit planetside for a while, btw).

I will create a technical issues forum later.

Regarding the issue, what you describe is -necessarily- connected to memory.
I'd say, actually, that you have a memory heating problem!.
It is quite possible, in fact, that the very CPU/ GPU fan radiators might be discharging hot air into the memory modules!

Many current mobos have four slots of memory, be sure to use the perimeter ones, rather than those near the CPU, and see if situation changes.

One other idea might be leaving the chassis open. All my cases are armorless to avoid overheating.

Fixed... well sort of.

The temperature of the pc had NOTHING to do with the actual problem which was a fault on the motherboard itself. i got a brand new one and no crashes at all.

im now playing every game ive missed playing due to the lockups but now i can play them undisturbed! and write new tunes which some new ones are up on my page http://www.soundclick.com/dudekri

Wishful thinking I guess

I see that we should have possibly thought of a defective motherboard amongst the first things.

Glad you solved it, eventually.
